Role played by NGOs in giving Indian children their due share of protection.

Every year in India millions of children are made the victims of numerous heinous crimes that has been since ages acting as a threat to the human existence, such as child labour, sexual offences, trafficking and the like. Despite various aggressive attempts to implement a pro-child rights policy environment, India still needs the support of civil society and concerned citizens to help the children, in providing then their due share of protection, to protect their childhood. Non-governmental organisations NGOs as they are commonly called are organisations that are involved in carrying out a wide range of activities for the betterment of the society and its people, especially in ensuring the preservation of human rights. These nongovernmental organisations have played a crucial role in protecting the rights of children in the following way.

eliminating child labour- almost ten million children today are forced to work as labourers in mines and various other places that have horrible working conditions. In such a scenario the nongovernmental organisations have offered their intervention in eliminating child labour. In the due process they have demanded the elimination of child labour by spreading awareness and educating the people about the ill effects of child labour. Families are also advised to report any cases of child labour so that immediate action could be taken against the concerned person.

rehabilitation and relief- through various awareness campaigns in nutrition and essential health care, these nongovernmental organisations are trying their level best to reduce child mortality rate and infant mortality rate. The programmes and works of the nongovernmental organisations are closely linked with the integrated chid development services scheme, department of health and family welfare, and the panchayti raj institutions, with the help of whom better policies can be framed and implemented.

educating the mothers- in order to protect the rights of their children it is of crucial importance to educate the mothers. The NGOs carry out various workshops in order to empower the mothers and educate them who would in turn imbibe the importance of protecting ones rights in the children. Furthermore, the NGOs in assistance with the community healthcare workers help mothers, newborns and pregnant women.
