Things we should do to help senior citizens
Senior citizens who are suffering from depression are
required special care. This is the most painful situation where citizen feel
lonely and have no one to take care in his or her final stage of life. Many
senior citizens feel ignored from their dear ones and end up into old age care
home. Looking at the current scenario, in coming years the Call to Action for
elderly population will increase in faster phase. In India, there are around 3
million elderly people living. Many of these are suffering from age-old
problem, which can grow further.
NGOs like National
NGO are helping old age people to spend their quality time with other
people and engage into activities. Making them feel good with activities is
what the job of NGOs is. Let us check why we need to take extra care of senior
citizens.
Law vs Reality-
In India, there are few laws that help in protecting elder citizen.
According to section 19 of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents’ and Senior
Citizens’ Act (MWPSCA), 2007 mandates for the State government to establish at
least one old age home in each district. This establishment will help in
offering accommodation to at least 150 senior citizens.
However, in reality, there are no such accommodation offered
to old age people, which is against the rights they need to have. This
indicates bleak future of elderly and required immediate action. Since the
population of elderly people is increasing, there could be major problem for
them.
Giving helping hands
to elder people-
As mentioned above, there are many problems elderly people
face; care centers like National NGO help such people to have better life. If
you are keen to help, there are few ways you can do-
Conduct Exercise
Classes-
Although, they are in old age, keeping their body active is
important. If you want to help them, then volunteer at National NGO Reviews and conduct
exercise classes that fits to their body. Exercise classes can help in
improving cognitive abilities as you are forced to think about how to move your
body.
Games Activity-
This is the best activity that can keep elderly people
engaged. A common game that many seniors enjoy is Bingo, helping to stimulate
mental health. Other than this, there is Scrabble, Card Games and Uno. NGO
manage to keep people engaged by certain games activity.
Bottom Line-
Since National NGO is a helping hand, you can join the
bandwagon to help old age people with activities. The least they deserve
peaceful time and make them feel comfortable.
